I've been reading you for about 3 years, and it's been a blast. Your pics and stories will be missed.
I know you don't owe any of your readers an explanation, but perhaps just a line or 2? As a blogger, I've also quit and risen from the dead in the past, I know there's sometimes VERY good reasons for giving it all up. But if you don't want to share, s'OK too...

Hey Shawn,
Sorry to see you are going. You were a good inspiration for me over here to get my butt in gear and move to China. If all goes well I will be in China in a year. Hope to meet up with you someday over there. Till then, follow your heart and take it easy.
peace,

Hey Shawn...
I don't want to be nosey, but what happened?
Gone with no explanation! Did the Chinese government threaten you or something? =(
Millions are broken-hearted around the world....
Well, even if there is no explanation...
you've touched us all with your down-to-earthness, humorous insight, and your first person recollections of both Korea and China over these years.
So many people looked forward to your updates and you made the world a better place...
Honestly, when you are old bouncing a (most likely mixed race) grand child on your knee, know that you made a profound contribution to so many peoples' lives... some grandpas can say "i was fortunate enough to fight for freedom in xyz war"... but you can tell them "I was fortunate enough to share my hopes and dreams with millions around the world". and how many of us can say that.
Stay cool shawn...
and if you care to do so, let me and everyone else know why you had to stop blogging so abruptly!
Cheers

Shawn! What the hell? You're not going to blog anymore? Why the hell not, what happened? As you can see, you have a lot of friends out here, and you are a bright light on an internet full of crap and noise. Keep blogging!
Seriously......
If the bossman told you to stop, F'em, switch schools. Your a good teacher. If your woman told you to stop, tell her there's about 600 million other women in China who would like to have a new boyfriend. Come on, WTF? Get back here and update, or I will come over an kick your ass and get both our round eye'd asses in jail.

Thanks for letting all of us internet voyeurs catch a small glimps of your life up to now. It's much appreciated. Even though you owe us no explanations, I can't help but wonder what happened? Did it have to do with your "my blog hurt a friend" post? or something unrelated? If you can't go in to details, I understand, but some kind of hint would make a lot of us happy I think ;) Anyway.. Have a great life dude... from the narrow window I had in to your life, you sound like a great guy and I wish you all the best.

how about a link to the co workers bloggy?
Posted by: Butterfingers | May 29, 2006 at 10:04 PM
OK people. WTF?? After reading up at the Kimchipot and at LingLing's new blog.......suicide?
Someone who actually knows the facts plz update here. Hopefully, I'm just jumping to bad conclusions.
So what if we're following Shawn vicariously? He had a very good blog. While sometime's it was too revealing, I think most of us admired and respected him more for the so-called inappropriate details and photos. In this day of celebrity culture and no shame "reality" tv, what Shawn was doing was nothing special.
I just hope the latest rumors aren't true.

So many people but no friend. Everyone is lonely that way. But I really don't understand people shooting down at people who are outstanding. ...it seems the onus is on the outstanding person to be strong, to ignore the noise, and to lead by example.

Anyone know what day the comments stopped being moderated, the kimchi pot, even though they hate him, seems to think the moderation of comments happened after the said date in ling lings post. I'm hoping it's a positive sign, although the fact jake posted on kimchi pot looking for contact info for John and Julie worries me. gah!

Does anyone have the link to LingLing's blog? If so, could you please post it here? Thanks!

Me thinks Shawn is pulling a funny stunt on all of us. Oh well, it was a nice diversion from a slow Memorial Day Weekend.

Ling ling has confirmed that it was Shawn she was mentioning in her post. I don't know what else to say, too shocked.

Read Ling Ling's Blog. Looks like Shawn took his own life.
http://luolingling.blogspot.com/
I really hope his family found out before this all broke to the public.
I have never spoken to Shawn via email, or known him in person. But I know for a fact that he has inspired so many people to leave there dull lives and go look for some adventure. I myself am getting ready to do just that. Knowing that someone I admire took his own life is pretty hard to understand.
Apparently he has also inspired tremendous jealousy in others because of his talent and fame. It's even gone so far that some people were trying to get his ex-g/f to associate with a certain website to help it grow. How sick is that?

Anyway, I get the feeling some people are harboring guilt and are going to try there best to play this off as a prank. Amazing what jealousy will drive people to do.

People e-fake their deaths all the time, so... who knows!
Posted by: fogger | May 30, 2006 at 12:43 PM
I only hope its an e-fake death, but its unlikely that Shawn would pretend to take his own like, given the history of his dad.
I really hope those guys over at www.thekimchipot.com know that they are to blame for it, and they get what’s coming to them!!
Shawn you'll be missed by all your online friends from all over the world...RIP.

I, too, have been a frequent reader and occasional commenter on this blog. I will miss Shawn's humourous and occassionally profound writing. I just want to say that I feel terrible for Shawn's friends and family right now. As a person who used to do suicide and crisis counseling, let me say this: don't feel guilty. This was Shawn's decision.

Shawn lived the life he wanted: world traveler, adventurer and educator: He was uniquely talented in delivering his emotions thru an impersonal media. Often the most talented and brightest of us live precarious existences.
Bright lights that burn out with a flash never dim.
Rock On Shawn !
